Liverpool International Tennis Tournament

The Liverpool International Tennis Tournament takes place at Calderstones Park, near Woolton, between Tuesday 10th and Sunday 15th June 2008.

This hugely popular event is the largest tennis exhibition in Europe and has gone from strength to strength since it started in 2002. Indeed it is now one of the leading occasions in the Liverpool social calendar and provides excellent networking opportunities for local businesses. 

The tournament proper has in the past featured the likes of Marat Safin, Mark Rosset, Juan Ignacio Chela, Paradorn Srichaphan, Ivan Ljubicic, Jan Michael Gambill, Robert Kendrick, Xavier Malisse, Vince Spadea, Novak Djokovic, Mikhail Youzhny and David Ferrer.

Legends such as Martina Navratilova, Bjorn Borg, Ilie Nastase, Mansour Bahrami, Peter McNamara, Guillermo Vilas, Richard Krajicek, Goran Ivanisevic, Pat Cash and Greg Rusedski have also made appearances in previous years, albeit Borg was unable to play due to injury.

For the 2008 event, Xavier Malisse and Robert Kendrick will be returning and joined in the Men's Tournament by top 50 ATP ranked Jose Acasuso from Argentina. 15 year old Bernard Tomic, one of Australia's hottest teenage tennis talents, has also signed up. Bernard, who became the youngest ever boy to win the Australian Junior Open earlier this year, has been praised in the global media and likened to a young Rafael Nadal.

The Ladies Tournament will once again feature Caroline Wozniacki and Ashley Harkleroad.

The Legends event features such illustrious names as Martina Hingis, Jana Novotna, Pat Cash, Goran Ivanisevic, Ilie Nastase, Mansour Bahrami, Mikael Pernfors and Peter McNamara as well as our very own local player made good, Barry Cowan.
