Westlife

The UK's, most successful boy band, WESTLIFE, will be returning to the Summer Pops on Sunday 29th June for a one off special show.

Westlife have chosen to finish their current UK tour at this year's Liverpool Summer Pops, by adding this extra day. Having name-checked the Summer Pops as one of the highlights of their touring calendar, Kian Egan said on stage at their live show back in February: "It's always great to be back in Liverpool. We've always enjoyed playing the Summer Pops over the years and it's great to be in this new Echo Arena."

Shane Filan said; "It's great to be coming back to the Pops, it's become almost a tradition for us now, this will be our 4th Pops show. The Liverpool fans are always really up for it and we get a great reaction. We look forward to putting on a very special show for the fans." "We love Liverpool. It's the closest city to Dublin," adds Nicky Byrne.

No modern band can compare to Westlife's extraordinary success. In 9 years they have sold over 40 million records globally, and been awarded 28 platinum discs, including a record breaking 14 No. 1 hits, beaten only by Elvis and The Beatles.

The bands hits include ‘Flying Without Wings', ‘Uptown Girl', ‘Mandy', ‘World Of Our Own', ‘You Raise Me Up' and recent smash hit, ‘Home.'

Westlife formed in 1998. They were signed by Simon Cowell and are managed by Louis Walsh. In recent years, Westlife's music has evolved from boy band teen pop to a more adult, contemporary sound, with an emphasis on ballads.

They are righteously proud of the new set. Louis Walsh wanted another covers set, but the boys stood strong. They all think it's their best yet. "It's very Westlife," says Shane, unapologetically, "but it's pop music. It's not pop electro or pop rock," adds Mark, "we know what Westlife is and we love that thing."
