Blondie and The Stranglers
Punk legends, BLONDIE and THE STRANGLERS, will be playing at the Liverpool Summer Pops in a ECHO Arena double headliner on Tuesday 22nd July 2008.
Blondie emerged as one of the great pop icons of New York's, celebrated, late '70s new wave, punk scene by defying easy categorisation. They scored their first major hits with reggae, rock/disco and hip-hop songs; wrote great rock hooks and brilliant ironic lyrics and had the hippest clothes and the coolest hair. Debbie Harry went from the pages of Punk magazine, to being on the cover of just about every mainstream publication on the newsstands.
Blondie scored 6 UK No. 1's with ‘Heart Of Glass,' ‘Sunday Girl', ‘Call Me', ‘Atomic', ‘The Tide Is High' and the 90's hit, ‘Maria', not forgetting other smash hits, including ‘Denis', ‘Picture This, ‘Hanging on the Telephone,' and ‘Dreaming.'
Debbie is looking forward to being back in town: "Liverpool is a great City. We can't wait to be back."
It has often been said that THE STRANGLERS are probably the most enduring band of the UK punk/new wave era, with hits including ‘Golden Brown', ‘Always the Sun', ‘Peaches' and '96 Tears.'
A number of influential bands from Blur, Suede, Hole and Pavement have cited the Stranglers as an influence; concerts are packed and the loyalty of their fans is legendary - following the band from gig to gig, both domestically and around the world. Amassing huge collections of recordings and memorabilia are commonplace.
Both Blondie and The Stranglers first came to Liverpool in the ‘70's, playing at world famous punk club, Eric's. "We played at the opening night over 30 years ago, so we've got fond memories of Liverpool" said JJ Burnell. "As a band, we may have seen many changes in our career over the years but, we can guarantee you, there's plenty more yearsinblack!"
